What we love about the SheShed flooring and ceiling boards

It's no secret that the natural timber floor and ceiling boards, (which are included as standard in all our kitset cabins), are one of things that define the style of our SheShed cabins and make them so beautiful. Hardly a day goes by where we don't receive feedback about how much someone loves the look and feel of the boards and how they add to the whole aesthetic of the cabin. 

Given how significant they are to the whole look of the cabin, we thought we'd take a closer look at what makes them so special and highlight a few of the things we love about them!

They come included as standard

Each and every kitset timber cabin available from SheShed comes with 19mm thick (in some cases 20mm), sustainably sourced, kiln-dried, Nordic spruce floor and ceiling boards included as standard.  

This means that once laid, you have a beautifully finished floor and ceiling with no need to purchase anything additional to finish off these areas in your SheShed. Some other cabins on the market are supplied with standard plywood sheets for these areas which means you still need to source additional products to finish them.

(Please note, every SheShed cabin also comes with roofing material included as standard which, depending on the cabin model purchased, is either asphalt shingles or steel roofing.)

Easy to construct

We like to make things easy here at SheShed and that's one reason why the floor and ceiling boards are made using a simple tongue and groove system, where one board simply slides into the groove of the next.

This ensures the boards fit tightly together and the result is a smooth, secure surface. It's a common system for wood floors, walls, and ceilings because it's practical, easy to install and looks great!  y. 

Durable and hardwearing

There's a lot to love about Nordic spruce! Not only does it have a stunning thin grain which gives it a unique look, (it also smells beautiful), but more importantly it's incredibly durable and hardwearing. It's a slow growing timber, that has a denser fibre structure than other related species like radiata pine, making it perfect for use in high traffic areas and in areas where furniture will be moved around a lot such as a home office or art studio. 

Add detail to the room

The only thing better than stepping into your SheShed, looking down and seeing the beautiful timber floorboards is casting your eyes upwards and seeing those same stunning boards on the ceiling, creating a beautiful focal point in the room and a great way to achieve a certain design aesthetic.   

Depending on the style you're trying to achieve with your SheShed, you may opt to seal your floorboards with a varnish to help further protect them, you may even paint them, which we've seen many times before!  We've also had many customers paint the ceiling boards. Whichever option you choose, it's comforting to know that the supplied floor and ceiling boards are a versatile inclusion when it comes to helping you achieve the look you're after.

It's clear to see why we're big fans of timber floor and ceiling boards, not only are they practical but they also offer a cosy, comfortable and comforting look and feel to your SheShed.
