Why Choose a SheShed Over Anyone Else

If you're in the market for a kitset timber cabin, you've no doubt been doing your research and would have seen that there are a few brands like SheShed. You've probably also noticed that with a number of options on the market, it can be hard to filter through all the information to make sure you're comparing apples with apples.

At first glance, it may seem as though other brands are cheaper, however, when you look at the details of the materials used as well as what is included with a SheShed and what's not included with some of our competitors, you'll quickly see that comparing a SheShed to most of the others is not comparing apples with apples and a SheShed is incredible value for money, here's the key differences between a SheShed and the rest.

Quality Double Glazed Windows – Included as Standard

Did you hear that? No? That's ok, we didn't expect you to because every single window (and door) available at SheShed comes as standard with double glazing. Yes, you read that right – double glazing!

A SheShed window is often better than the windows in most homes around the country. Double glazing is not only great for noise reduction, but it also plays a huge role in keeping the temperature inside your cabin comfortable as well.

Other cabins on the market come with windows which have either basic acrylic plastic or single glazed glass and neither of these are very good for temperature control nor noise reduction.

Could you imagine sitting in your cabin in the hot Australian summer or cold New Zealand winter with windows that are acrylic or single glazed? We know which ones we'd prefer.

Beautiful Tongue and Groove Flooring – Included as Standard

A kitset timber cabin is an investment and for your investment there are certain things that you would expect as standard, flooring being one of them. So, it might surprise you to learn that some of our competitors do not supply flooring as standard, all you get are the walls and the roof. Flooring needs to be purchased as an added extra, which obviously comes with extra cost, and even if you do purchase it, the flooring provided is usually particle board construction flooring which you would want to cover with another flooring finish like tiles or vinyl to protect it  - there's another added cost.

None of the above is a concern when you purchase a SheShed because you get our stunning tongue and groove, 19mm thick, Nordic spruce timber floors included as standard with your purchase. Think of real, solid timber floors you see in a home, that's exactly what you get with a SheShed.

Stunning Tongue and Groove Roof Boards – Included as Standard

Another part of a SheShed that is loved by many is the stunning tongue and groove timber roof. Made from the same material as the rest of the cabin, kiln-dried Nordic spruce, and measuring the same thickness as the floor at 19mm, the timber roof of a SheShed really does complete the look and add to the overall aesthetic. Once installed it requires no lining or additional work on the interior, it's all done, functions well and looks beautiful.

Protecting the outside of the SheShed timber roof is easy, as every SheShed comes with either asphalt roof tiles or steel, both of which are durable, cost-effective, don't fade, and are DIY-friendly to install. Again, both the tongue and groove timber roof boards and asphalt shingles or steel are included as standard with the purchase of your SheShed.

Other options on the market provide tin or metal roofs that not only look rather unsightly on the inside of the cabin, they also don't do much in the way of insulating your cabin. To make the interior of these cabins look a little nicer and provide some protection from the temperature outside they would require lining the tin roof with timber batons, adding insulation and then covering it with plasterboard and painting it. All additional costs.

Interlocking Timber Wall Boards

Every SheShed cabin is made from sustainably sourced, kiln-dried Nordic Spruce, with each board meticulously machined to create solid tongue and groove timbers that fit together effortlessly using our interlocking system.

The precision of the tongue and groove and the interlocking style of construction ensures a snug, weatherproof seal that keeps out the elements and makes for a super easy build.

The interlocking system of our boards really is a game changer when it comes to construction. This system means the inside of the cabin looks as stunning as the outside as you see the stacked timber wallboards creating a beautiful, cosy atmosphere inside your cabin. It also makes building your cabin super fast! You simply stack the boards on top of each other and gently tap them into place with a mallet.

Others on the market don't use this system and the interior walls of the cabin are simply plain, chipboard panels that all require pre-drilling for assembly. They're also often not as thick as the SheShed timber wallboards.

Room for Customisation

One thing SheShed and most of its competitors have in common is that we provide kitset cabins and the fact that they are flatpack is what keeps them affordable. That said, with a SheShed there is room for some customisation to your cabin.

Depending on your cabin, with a number of SheSheds, you have the option to choose the placement of your window, add additional windows and doors, add roof insulation, a steel subbase frame for added protection or even extend your SheShed with a canopy kit!

Once constructed, a SheShed is essentially an empty box ready for you to put your own personal touch on, this is great for choosing the placement of lighting fixtures and electricity and access to power in your cabin. Neither of which require an electrician to be on site during construction as they can be installed once the cabin is built, giving you time to set up your cabin and really decide where you want to place these things.

Final Thoughts

So yes, perhaps at first glance a SheShed may seem more expensive than some of its competitors, but when you delve a little deeper and look at the difference in quality of materials used, in addition to the items which are included as standard with a SheShed, the quality of the range of optional extras and the build support provided you'll see why you should choose a SheShed cabin over anyone else.

Below is a handy checklist of items to consider in your research before you purchase your kitset timber cabin.

Kitset Cabin Pre Purchase Considerations
